How AsthmApp started

Our founder, Emmanuel Olowe, initiated the idea for AsthmApp in February 2020 after years of grappling with asthma management.

Emmanuel reflects, “I’ve always been deeply involved in sports—countless sports, really. My focus was always on excelling in my athletic endeavors. Asthma was the last thing I wanted to worry about when gearing up for competitions. Diagnosed at an early age, like many, I struggled to keep it under control. It wasn’t until later that I realized I wasn’t alone; many others in the UK faced similar challenges.”

Asthma presents a significant challenge for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, affecting over 12% of the population. Unfortunately, studies indicate that a significant number of asthmatics struggle to manage their condition effectively, lacking the necessary support from healthcare professionals to ensure their safety and well-being.

Our recent survey aimed to identify pain points within the asthmatic community revealed that nearly 50% of respondents expressed concern about their health and well-being, with their families and friends sharing in these worries. This alarming statistic compelled us to take action. In fact, our initial survey received over 980 replies in less than 24 hours, highlighting the urgency of the issue.

Another frustration I encountered was leaving doctor’s appointments feeling unable to provide a comprehensive overview of my health. In today’s technologically advanced world, there should be more sophisticated methods available for monitoring and managing asthma.

This is why we created AsthmApp—to support the millions struggling to effectively manage their asthma. It’s for them and their loved ones, who seek a better outcome and support system.
